BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KERO) — A few private schools say they're seeing increased enrollment. This comes as some public schools report a drop in their number of students as grades became an issue during distance learning.

On Thursday 23ABC caught up with the principal at Garces Memorial High School, Myka Peck, who said parents are looking for more in-person learning.

"They want in-person education with teachers in the classrooms with their students. They can't wait any longer, so they want to come as soon as possible."

Peck added that 14 students requested a transfer to Garces last year which is twice the number the school usually sees.

Peck also said another 20 students are on a waitlist to enroll.

Going forward, Garces looks to add mobile or "pop up" classrooms to its campus in order to accommodate the influx of students.
