BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Bringing in the first night of Hanukkah with donuts, dreidels and family.
Members of community celebrated the start of Hanukkah Sunday night with the annual 'Light Up the Night' menorah lighting at the Marketplace in Southwest Bakersfield.
"Just one little flame, you know takes away the darkness and we all have the ability to do a light in our lives, just like the flame in the menorah --that little light, that little good that you do has the ability to light up the night, just like out menorah lights up the night," said Esther Schlanger, Director of the Chabad of Bakersfield.
The event was hosted by Chabad of Bakersfield.
The celebration incorporated authentic food and treats, live music and the dreidel man.
Hanukkah lasts for eight days and each night one lit candle is added to the menorah and a second one will be added Monday evening.
