The Kern County Superintendent of Schools will be holding an information session for the Teacher Development Program for those interested in becoming a teacher. The event will take place on Wednesday, February 5th from 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. at City Centre Room 1B, 1300 17th St.
According to the KCSOS, "the event is intended to provide information to people who are contemplating entering the teaching profession and want to know how to become qualified to do so."
Like most of California, Kern County is facing a teacher shortage. "A combination of an aging workforce and impending retirements, population growth in our community and an insufficient number of candidates enrolled in teacher preparation programs has contributed to the deficiency."
The session will provide a checklist of steps aspiring teachers need to take to become credentialed in Kern County. Representatives from local teacher prep programs will also be on hand to answer questions.
An RSVP to internport@kern.org is appreciated though not required.
