You could call it the "Master Chef Junior" of Kern County as the Greenfield Union School District hosted its 7th Annual Breakfast of Champions Kids Cooking Contest.

The competition was open to all 9,600 students in the district, but out of all the recipes submitted only eight were chosen to compete Tuesday night. All eight finalists gathered at the school district kitchen to cook for the judges. The goal of the contest is to promote healthy cooking and eating breakfast at school every day.

The judges did pick a winner: Lilly Rivera, a seventh-grader from McKee Middle School who made a healthy breakfast fruit pizza. Her pizza will now be part of Greenfield School District's breakfast menu.
