BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Mission at Kern County will be holding it's annual Hope for the Holiday's Gala on November 23rd and former Major League Baseball player Darryl Strawberry is set to be the main speaker at the event.
The event, taking place at the Seven Oaks Country Club, will "highlight stories of men and women who have struggled with homelessness and addictions and now are happy, healthy, productive citizens of our town."
Strawberry, who played 17 seasons in the majors for the New York Mets (1983–1990), Los Angeles Dodgers (1991–1993), San Francisco Giants (1994) and New York Yankees (1995–1999), had his own struggle with addiction.
"As his career continued to climb, Darryl could not keep up with his childhood pain and struggles which he attributes to his downward spiral with drug addictions. Darryl is now committed to shedding light on the dangers of addictions and the process of his recovery."
The Hope for the Holidays Gala will include a live and silent auction, as well as a dinner. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Mission at Kern County. You can register for the event online.
