BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Local activist Dolores Huerta turns 90 years old on Friday.
On April 10, 2018, then-Governor Jerry Brown designated the day as Dolores Huerta Day to honor the achievements of the local labor and civil rights leader.
She is the first and only living person to hold this honor.
Huerta is the founder and president of the Dolores Huerta Foundation, an organization that empowers and builds leadership in low-income communities. Dolores also co-founded and served as vice president of the United Farm Workers union.
The foundation will celebrate her birthday with an online nationwide celebration on May 16.
