BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Bakersfield Police Department is calling on the community to come out as Citizen Volunteers.

The Citizen Volunteer Unit is designed to promote community participation by giving civilians the opportunity to share their talents and experience to assist the Bakersfield Police Department in fulfilling its mission.

A citizen volunteer may assist in the following duties:

  • Patrolling downtown and working in an “observe & report” capacity
  • Greeting the public
  • Clerical support
  • Data entry
  • Assisting at special events

Appointment to the Citizen Volunteer Unit will require interested individuals to attend an academy, which will begin April 7. The academy will be held one night a week from 6 to 9 p.m. and will introduce volunteers to a variety of police related topics.
If you have an interest in law enforcement and volunteering call Edwina Tripp at (661) 326-3196.

Applications will be accepted until February 19, 2020.
