SAN DIEGO, Calif. – New details reveal why a man opened fire at a pool party in San Diego - killing one person and injuring several others.

According to San Diego Police, the gunman, Peter Selis, was “distraught” over a break-up.

Officials say he actually called his ex-girlfriend to tell her he had just shot two people.

One of the people at the party said his friend approached the gunman, prior to the shooting, and invited him to join in.

“No one knew him but one of my friends who actually got hit multiple times saw him sitting there so he went over there and offered him food, drink, whatever. Said hey. Introduced himself. Said this is my party, you're welcome to hang out. Can I get you something?” said Drew Phillips, a witness at the party.

Two people are still in critical condition this morning.

Ultimately, police shot and killed Selis.

Investigators say his family knew he was really upset about the break-up but didn’t think he would take it this far.
