Bakersfield Police released new details on Monday about the officer-involved shooting Saturday night.
On Saturday, Nov. 4, a shooting took place in the 700 block of R Street that left a man suffering from several gunshot wounds, BPD said. When officers responded, they learned information to believe Augustus Crawford, 20, was a suspect in the shooting.
Later that night, BPD officers found Crawford in the passenger seat of a car near South H Street and Planz Road. The firearm used in the shooting earlier that night had not been located, so officers believed Crawford was armed with a firearm.
When officers conducted a traffic stop, the female driver ran away, BPD said. The officer-involved shooting occurred during the foot pursuit, police said. Crawford was shot by police and later died at the hospital.
The woman was found in the 5100 block of White Lane, interviewed and released, BPD said.
The gun that was found at the scene of the officer-involved shooting was found to be the final missing gun that was stolen from an unmarked KCSO vehicle last month, according to the Kern County Sheriff's Office.
BPD said the investigation in ongoing.
