Vacant home catches fire in E. Bakersfield

Crews battled a vacant house fire early Monday morning.

At about 7:45 a.m., Bakersfield Fire Department firefighters were sent to a house that was on fire at 439 Lake Street.

First arriving BFD units reported a "working fire" with heavy involvement, and fire threatening exposures on both sides of the home.

BFD Engine Company Firefighters established hydrant-based water supplies and rapidly deployed numerous hose lines, simultaneously attacking the main fire and positioning to protect the exposed homes.

Firefighters were also initially challenged by several downed live powerlines. Primary searches confirmed no occupants inside.

BFD Arson Investigators are currently determining the cause of the fire. Damage is estimates are not available and no civilian or Firefighter injuries were reported.
