Suspect in 2015 murder case enters not guilty plea

Posted

After two years on the run, the man wanted for a deadly bar shooting faced a judge today.

Gabriel Verdugo Junior is accused in a two-year-old murder case.  He pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder today.

Verdugo is charged with shooting Elvis Gonzalez to death with a shotgun outside the El Escorpion bar on South Chester Avenue back in August 2015.

Sheriff's investigators say the two were arguing before Verdugo shot Gonzalez.

Verdugo was caught in Mexico earlier this month with the help of the B-P-D gang unit, U.S. Marshals and Baja State Police.

Verdugo's first court appearance was delayed last week as the judge changed his bail.

He is being held on $2 million bail and is due back in court on June 26th.
