The winds that blew through Bakersfield Wednesday afternoon prompted a health caution for the southern San Joaquin Valley.

Officials issued a health cautionary statement effective immediately through late Wednesday evening, possibly into Thursday.

The developing thunderstorms over Kern County created blowing dust that resulted in unhealthy concentrations of particulate matter.

Older adults and children should avoid prolonged exposure and heavy exertion.
