State Route 99 was named the deadliest highway in the U.S.

Highway 99 in the Central Valley is the deadliest major highway in the country, according to a report by ValuePenguin, a private consumer research organization.

The 400-mile highway recorded 62.3 fatal accidents per 100 miles during a five-year span.

Between 2011 and 2015, Highway 99 had 264 fatal accidents, 72 involved drunk driving.
