Sheriff Donny Youngblood stopped by the 23ABC studios Friday to further discuss ICE Detainers in the county.
As 23ABC first reported on Thursday, Fox News reported Kern County ranks third on a list of counties not co-operating with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The report said we have 65 undocumented immigrants detained in the county, surpassed only by Los Angeles and New York.
Sheriff Youngblood said that’s incorrect, but many people have called his office concerned with the report.
23ABC found the information came directly from federal data.
Sheriff Youngblood said the data is confusing because it includes state and federal prisons that are located in Kern County but outside the Sheriff’s control.
Sheriff Youngblood said he and his department have as great relationship with ICE and he’s hoping the data will be updated to reflect that Kern County isn’t directly involved with detainers.
