UPDATE (Oct. 3 8:12 a.m.) Salty's BBQ and Catering released a statement offering condolences to Jake Beaton, Jack's son.
Today the Salty's family hurts and grieves with one of our employees, Jake Beaton, whose dad, Jack Beaton, was shot and killed last night as he sacrificed himself to protect his wife when shots rang out in Las Vegas.
Jack Beaton was a great father, proud of his son and the great job he does as a Grill Master at Salty's.
Jake, we love you and promise to be here for you. We continue to pray for you and your family.
Our prayers are for God to show His great love and mercy during this time.

A second person from Bakersfield has been confirmed by family to be deceased following Vegas attacks.
According to someone close to the family, Jack Beaton tried shielding his wife from gun fire when they got separated. According to our source he was able to make it to the hospital, however didn't have I.D. on him which is why his family couldn't get a hold of it.
Jack's son confirmed his death to 23ABC.
