BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — On Tuesday, April 23, CHP responded to a school bus with the Palo Verde Union School District that had fallen into the sinkhole.
According to CHP, the school bus was occupied by the driver and 47 students and the driver, Richard Howard had all students exit the bus for their safety prior to CHP arriving.
According to the driver, after stopping for a posted stop sign, the ground underneath the bus's right rear wheel gave way and began to sink into the ground. This caused the bus to lean in a north direction.
It was determined that no passengers were injured and that the bus was lifted out of the sinkhole without sustaining any damage.
All of the occupants of the bus were placed on another bus and Tulare County Roads closed the roadway for repairs.
