For the fifth day in a row, the south Bakersfield Dollar Tree remains closed after reports that an employee died last week after falling ill at work.
According to CalOSHA, Friday evening employees found Magdaleno unconscious in a store aisle.
Officials say that store management offered to call 9-1-1 but Magdaleno declined.
She went home and died later that evening.
With temperatures in Bakersfield reaching triple-digits during the summer, former employees and customers took to social media expressing concerns that hot conditions inside that store may have caused Magdaleno fall ill.
While Magdaleno’s family says they are not pointing fingers, they want to know why managers did not call 9-1-1 when they found her unconscious.
According to CalOSHA, two anonymous complaints have been made to officials about intermittent air conditioning problems but said that the store has not been closed by them.
They added that they are not currently investigating the business but that they may later if they think there may be a connection.
According to the Kern County Sheriff's Department, Magdaleno's cause of death has yet to be determined. 23ABC has reached out to the Dollar Tree for comment but has yet to receive a response.
