Community members gathered in Southwest Bakersfield Thursday to hold a march and vigil outside Congressman Kevin McCarthy’s home.
The march began at a parking lot on Stockdale Highway and Gosford Road and went down to his home in a nearby neighborhood.
Those involved wanted to bring attention to healthcare and immigration issues. McCarthy had been in Bakersfield all week for different events.
Veterans held a counter protest in the area with the intention to block protesters from the Congressman’s home.
Former Representative of the 34th District in the California State Assembly took to Facebook and wrote, “Going to my Congressman's home, where his family is???? Unacceptable”.
Bakersfield police were made aware of the march and had officers patrolling the area, but none were specifically assigned to the protest.
