Emergency crews were fighting a brush fire along Highway 65 north of Bakersfield late Wednesday afternoon after a vehicle caught fire.
California Highway Patrol dispatchers reported a fire on the east side of the highway near Gretlein Road just before 4 p.m.
The Kern County Fire Department said the blaze could be handled with the help of a firefighting helicopter.
The blaze is estimated to be approximately 20 acres in size.
