Husband of Rosa Garibay arrested, accused of murdering his wife

The Bakersfield Police Department have arrested the husband of Rosa Garibay and accused him of murdering his wife.

We spoke with family members who shared that Rosa was a devoted mother and truly cared about her children, Jason, 21, Dylan, 6, and Jade, 4.

The family members shared that Rosa and her husband, Gonzalo Garibay, 44, were going to divorce and that Rosa was getting ready to move out.

On July 20, 2016, Bakersfield Police Department detectives developed information that Rosa Garibay may have disappeared under suspicious circumstances.

On July 21, 2016 at about 6:35 a.m. Bakersfield Police detectives located the body of a deceased adult female, believed to be Rosa Garibay, in a mountainous area off of Highway 33 near Ojai.

The exact location was at marker No. 43.99 which is closer to Lockwood, according to Ventura County Sheriff's Captain Garo Kuredijan.

 

Detectives are currently working with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department to process that scene and recover the victim. A positive identification of the victim will be made by the Kern County Coroner’s Office.

At about 10:30 a.m. on July 21, Rosa Garibay’s husband, Gonzalo was arrested and charged with murder related to her disappearance. He was later booked into the Kern County Jail Central Receiving Facility.

Gonzalo Garibay was previously arrested May 12, 2015 on inflicting corporal injury on a spouse charge, but those charges were dropped on January 8, 2016.

Gonzalo was arrested July 21, 2016 on charges of first-degree murder and spousal abuse.

Rosa Garibay is a Hispanic female, 41 years old, 5’ 7”, 155 pounds, and has brown hair and green eyes, according to police. She was last seen wearing a black blouse and unknown color shorts.
