Posted

Several teachers and parents joined activist Dolores Huerta to speak out against allowing teachers to carry guns on campuses in the Kern High School District.

The issue was not on the agenda tonight but it is something the board is looking into. Just a few months ago the board voted unanimously to allow concealed carry permit holders on campus.

Students and parents raised concern about teachers having guns on campus, saying it could end up causing a tragedy.

The board said the teachers would receive training if they wish to carry a gun on campus. Gun advocates say armed teachers could help reduce the loss of life while police arrive.

Board members said there is still no date for when this item will be on the agenda but they said that administration researching the issue.
