The California Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash in central Bakersfield.
It happened around 5 Sunday morning in the area of Golden State Ave and F St.
CHP said a man was driving eastbound on Golden State Ave. when officials said a woman walking westbound stepped into his lane.
Officers said the driver was unable to avoid the woman and hit her.
The woman died at the scene.
The driver stay and was cooperative with the officers.
CHP does not believe alcohol was a factor in this crash.
One eastbound lane of Golden State Ave. was closed temporarily. It has since reopened.
The crash remains under investigation.
The victim's identity will be released at a later time by the Kern County Coroner's Office.
