One person is dead after a semi-truck drove off an overpass near the Love's Travel Stop near Tehachapi Boulevard on Saturday afternoon.
The Kern County Fire Department said the truck was traveling eastbound on Highway 58 and had left the road at the railroad overpass; the truck went between the elevated lanes of Highway 58 and ended up on the railroad tracks below, next to Tehachapi Boulevard, damaging both the bridge and the railroad tracks.
The truck was left in a nearly vertical position after the rear section of the trailer was caught on the bridge above the truck. Kern County Fire Department Urban Search and Rescue team was brought in due to the high-level of difficulty involved.
The driver of the truck was declared dead at the scene of the accident, and one lane of Highway 58 is closed while the truck is being removed. Environmental Health is also on scene due to a large amount of diesel spilled from the truck.
