The California Highway Patrol says a 19-year-old was not wearing his seatbelt when he was ejected from the vehicle he was in and killed Sunday afternoon.

CHP says they received reports of  an overturned vehicle with a person that had been ejected around 1:30 p.m.

According to officials a green SUV was traveling West on White Lane and a white sedan was heading North on South Union Avenue when the two collided. CHP says the SUV flipped – ejecting the driver.

Officials say it is not clear which car entered the intersection at the wrong time – but have ruled a third car that was seen leaving the crash to not be relevant.

The driver of the SUV died on scene as a result of his injuries.

The CHP says 20-year-old Elandra Lazalde was also ejected and suffered major injuries.
