Kern County dog enthusiasts gathered at Petco in Bakersfield to rally together in support of Nancy Cathey.

Cathey is the owner of Cathey's K-9 Rescue. She was involved in a crash on Interstate 5 near Dodger Stadium Saturday night.

Cathey was returning to Bakersfield from a dog adoption event in Los Angeles. Her truck was carrying 15 dogs.

The truck reportedly spun and flipped several times. Some of the dogs made their way onto the I-5 but none of the dogs suffered major injuries.

Cathey had to be cut out of the vehicle and was transported to a Los Angeles hospital with reported minor injuries.

Local supporters of Cathey met Sunday afternoon to discuss ways to raise money for a new K-9 Rescue vehicle.

"We're just here right now just to show her support and what we want to do is try to raise some money for her to get that truck back," said Susan Borg, a friend of Cathey.

Stacy Enns, an independent dog rescuer in Kern County, agreed.

"We need to get funds going to help get her truck back in order and get her back to doing what she loves."

The supporters also reflected on Cathey's impact on the community.

"We see how there's all these unwanted dogs and you can see the shelters that are so full. She pulls from the shelter, which is awesome, and saves a life," said Borg.
