Man taken into custody following standoff in Mojave

UPDATE: The man behind the SWAT standoff has been taken into custody. According to the Kern County Sheriff's Office, the standoff was over just before midnight.

KCSO says the suspect was intoxicated and became upset with his girlfriend, firing two shots at her.

He then physically assaulted her. When he fell asleep, she ranout of their home. A K-9 was dispatched during the standoff and bit the suspect.

He was then taken into custody and transported to a hospital in Tehachapi. He could face spousal abuse charges. His bail is set at $300,000.

Officials said deputies are surrounding a residence in the 1800 block of Barstow Rd.

KCSO said deputies responded to a call for an assault with a deadly weapon before 10:00 p.m. Monday when the suspect ran back inside of the home.
