Family members identify man found shot Saturday morning in Lamont

UPDATE (12/4, 5:35 p.m.): The Kern County Coroner's Office has identified the person who was killed in a shooting in Lamont early Saturday morning.

Arvin resident, Andy Medina, 20, was found dead on Dec. 2 around 5:30 a.m.

The Coroner's Office said a postmortem examination will determine the cause and manner of death.

This was the first of two shootings that happened in Lamont within a 24-hour period.

The Kern County Sheriff's Office is investigating a homicide in Lamont that happened early Saturday morning. 

Officers responded to the intersection of Waco Avenue and School Street around 5:30 a.m. to a subject suffering from major injuries. 

23ABC News heard through radio traffic that the initial call out was for a victim of a shooting. 

Upon their arrival, deputies located a subject who they determined to be dead. 

Kern County Sheriff's Office detectives were called to the scene and assumed the investigation. 

KCSO has not confirmed the identity of the person, but family members who reached out to 23ABC said the victim is Andy Medina, 20, of Lamont. 

They said he was one of five children and had three younger sisters and an older brother. 

Family members and friends are holding a car wash at the Fastrip, 10301 Main St, in Lamont Sunday to raise money for funeral expenses. 

The cause and manner of death will be later determined by the coroner's office.
