and last updated

The Kern County Fire Department battled a vacant structure fire in Taft on Saturday morning.

KCFD says the department responded at 9:49 a.m. to the 300 block of E. Kern Street. When they arrived, they were faced with an 800 square foot abandoned structure fire.

Crews say the building was "100% involved in fire" when they arrived. A nearby commercial building was also exposed to the blaze, but firefighters were able to put the fire out and protect the commercial building.

KCFD says they saved an estimated $100,000 in structure value by saving the nearby commercial building.
