On September 7, 2016, around 3:40 p.m., a white 1989 Isuzu pick-up truck was traveling westbound on Mil Potrero Highway, west of Ward Drive, near Pine Mountain Club, at an unknown speed.

As the Isuzu crossed a left curve in the roadway, the driver, a Frazier Park resident, lost control of their vehicle, and the Isuzu began sliding sideways into the eastbound oncoming lane.

Zachary Giancanelli of Frazier Park, 22, was driving a white 2002 Chevrolet service truck, traveling eastbound at 35-40 mph at that time and the Isuzu collided head-on with the Chevrolet in the eastbound lane.

Due to the force of the collision, coupled with not utilizing their seatbelt, the Isuzu driver was fully ejected from the vehicle.

The Isuzu driver sustained fatal injuries and died as a result of the collision. Their death is pending next-of-kin notification.

Giancanelli, the driver of the Chevrolet, sustained minor injuries.

Alcohol intoxication is a suspected factor in this collision.
