Police reports released today detail the night 80-year-old Florence McKay was robbed and shot in the leg.
The reports say that McKay answered the door between 3 and 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 6th, and a young woman said she needed to use a phone because her car had broken down.
As McKay proceeded to grab a phone, she says three or four men rushed into her home.
The suspects found a safe in the living room area and told McKay that they would kill her if she didn't give them the combination to open the safe.
McKay told the suspects that she did not know the combination, and one of the suspects shot her in the leg.
The reports show that McKay lied on the ground throughout the night as the suspects continued to rummage her home.
She activated her Life Alert system the following morning and was taken to the hospital to treat the gunshot wound.
Rayon Jeremiah Norwood was arrested in connection to the robbery after being stopped at a traffic stop.
As police worked to remove Norwood from the back of the police vehicle to take him to the county jail, Norwood tried to flee. The police report says that Norwood made it about 15 feet before officers grabbed him and detained him.
Robert Norwood, Jr., was arrested for his role as well.
