A car accident in south Bakersfield has left at least one person dead.
The accident happened around 3:55 am Sunday morning in the 4600 block of Planz Rd.
BPD officials said the driver was a solo occupant of a grey Dodge pickup and was traveling westbound on Planz Road at an unknown speed.
Officials noted that for unknown reasons, the driver lost control of his vehicle striking several unoccupied parked vehicles before rolling onto its side.
After the accident, BPD blocked off Planz Rd. between Stine Rd. and Akers Rd.
Bakersfield Fire personnel extracted the driver from the vehicle.
Medical personnel also arrived on scene and pronounced the driver deceased.
The sergeant on scene said initial reports indicate the driver who was killed was a Hispanic male in his 20s or 30s.
No one else was injured in the crash.
Officials said it was unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol were a factor.
The area was closed for several hours as a result of the collision and investigation, But it has since been reopened.
