Students from several different elementary schools participated in the first ever Cesar Chavez Day of Service.
The cleanup was organized by the assembly member Rudy Salas and the Latino Roundtable of Kern.
The students have been learning about Cesar Chavez in their classrooms and said they too wanted to help their community.
The volunteers picked up trash for several hours at Rexland Acres Park. The adults say they came out to not only remember Cesar Chavez but to also set a good example.
The hope is that the cleanup will continue for many years to come.
