Crash involving BPD officer, traffic impact reported at White Lane and Wible Road in SW Bakersfield

UPDATE (Sept. 23, 2016, 4:10 p.m.): At about 11:30 a.m. today, an on-duty Bakersfield Police officer was driving eastbound on White Lane approaching Wible Road with his emergency lights and siren activated.

 
As the officer entered the intersection of White Lane and Wible Road, he and a vehicle traveling northbound on Wible Road collided. This caused a chain reaction collision and two other vehicles were struck. The officer along with the driver and a passenger in the first vehicle were taken to a local hospital with minor to moderate injuries. 
 
The occupants of the other two vehicles declined medical attention.

Traffic in the area of White Lane and Wible Road may be impacted after reports of a injury crash involving an officer, California Highway Patrol dispatchers reported Friday.

The crash was reported just after 11:30 a.m. at the intersection in Southwest Bakersfield.

CHP dispatchers and Bakersfield Police said an officer is involved, but it's unclear which agency the officer works for.

Officials say the officer suffered moderate injuries in the crash.

Traffic may be diverted in the area and on nearby Highway 99.
