Police were called out to River Walk Park to investigate a possible body in the river bed.
According to Bakersfield Police at around 10:45 a.m. some people were playing in the river and noticed something at the bottom of the river that they thought was a decomposing body.
When police arrived on scene they did find the body and said there were no apparent signs of trauma and no ID to use in identifying the body.
Police say the body was so badly decomposed that they weren't able to determine whether or not it was the body of a man or a woman. Police also said the Kern County Coroner's Office would likely need to use jaw samples and dental records to identify the person.
The Coroner's Office has transported the body and will continue the investigation.
