Body found on railroad tracks on L Street, police report woman was struck by a train and killed

UPDATE, 1:37 p.m. - The victim was identified by the Kern County Coroner's Office as Jasmine Chavez, 22, of Bakersfield.

An autopsy will be scheduled to determine cause and manner of death, officials said.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- On Tuesday, September 6, 2016, at about 4:20 am, Bakersfield police officers were dispatched to the railroad crossing near L Street regarding a report of a severely injured subject.

As a result of the initial investigation, it appears this individual was struck by a train between L Street and M Street, prior to the L Street crossing. Medical aid responded and Hall Ambulance personnel pronounced the subject deceased at the scene.
 
The identity of the decedent will be released by the Kern County Coroner’s Office, and the investigation is being conducted with the assistance of the Burlington Northern/ Santa Fe Police.
