(UPDATE 3:30 P.M.) Bakersfield Police said all lanes have reopened on Highway 178 after Search and Rescue recovered a body from the Kern River.
A body found in the Kern River has led to the closure of Highway 178 in both directions, at the mouth of the canyon, as crews investigate.
Kern County Search and Rescue and the Bakersfield Police Department are on scene as crews work to recover the body.
BPD said they were called out around 10 a.m. to assist KCSO with traffic control after the body was found.
There are no details regarding the circumstance in which the body was found as the investigation is ongoing.
