Bakersfield a top 50 city for veterans to live, according to a report

Bakersfield tied for 1st in a health category and ranked 45th overall as the best place for veterans to live, according to a new report released Monday. 

WalletHub's report compares the largest 100 U.S. cities across 17 factors such as share of military skill-related jobs, to housing affordability, to availability of VA health facilities.

A city's overall ranking was determined by jobs, economy, quality of life and health rankings pertaining to veterans. The top three cities were Austin, TX, Colorado Springs, CO, and Virginia Beach, VA. Some of the worst cities for veterans included Baltimore, MD, Newark, NJ, and Detroit, MI.

Bakersfield was tied number 1 in the health category with ten other cities, all of which are in California. That category was determined on factors including VA benefits administration facilities and health facilities per veteran population and the quality of VA health facilities.

Economy: 42

Quality of life: 86

Health: 1
