The City of Arvin is scheduled to vote on a virtual ban of oil and gas production in Arvin on Tuesday.
The affected companies are small "mom and pop" businesses that may not be able to afford additional cost regulations, according to a statement by the Kern Citizens of Energy.
Kern County is the largest oil producing region in the state and provides 80% of California's petroleum consumption.
This industry provides $4 billion in income, 40,000 local jobs and $1.1 billion in state and local tax revenue.
