Suspect dead in officer-involved shooting in Southeast Bakersfield

One suspect tied to an officer-involved shooting after a police chase in Southeast Bakersfield early Thursday morning died. Three other suspects were taken into custody. 

At 3:21 a.m. Bakersfield police began a pursuit at McDonald Way and Stockdale Highway after a driver failed to yield for an enforcement stop after making an improper turn.

The chase ensued and ended in Southeast Bakersfield in the 900 block of Feliz Drive.

When the vehicle stopped, one suspect fled on foot with a firearm. The suspect identified as 37-year-old Francisco Villarreal led police on a foot pursuit, firing at officers. Officers shot Villarreal and he died on scene. No officers were injured.

A second male suspect identified as 43-year-old Nick Valenzuela fled from the vehicle and was taken into custody. He was arrested for battery on a peace officer and an outstanding warrant for probation violation.

Two females in the front of the car were also taken into custody. The driver, 36-year-old Marisol Lopez was arrested for unsafe lane change, driving with a suspended license, evading an officer, conspiracy, and allowing a firearm inthe vehicle.

The second female was released.
